Imagination…
My son was in pretend mode most of the day.
He handed me a toy screwdriver this morning, and told me to sword fight him. He used his philips-head screwdriver, while I used his flat-head one. He wanted to do it all day. Every time that I saw him, he would ask to sword fight. I have to admit, it was fun. I think that he got the idea from watching Peter Pan.
Later on, I noticed a circle on his hand that made me think of ring worms!
When I asked him about it, he reluctantly told me that he was pretending that he was a rumor weed. Confused, I said…”what?”.
He told me (frustrated now) that he was a rumor rumor weed off of “Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed” (Veggies Tales…in case you are out of that loop). He said that the big rumor weed has teeth, and he was the big rumor weed…so he bit himself. All that I could say was, “ok… don’t bite yourself again”. He certainly has an active imagination that I do not want to discourage.
People have amazing imaginations…even so, there are limits.
Paul wrote in the letter to Ephesus, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” – Ephesians 3:20-21
This statement from Paul declares glory to God first. In doing so, he acknowledges that our minds cannot even imagine what God can do!
I am discovering a little more about my imagination and God. I often try to put limits on what God can do because of the limits of my mind. He can do far more than I could ever think up. It is difficult for me to not over-analyze everything, and make decisions based off of the data that I have. God can definitely work outside of my box. I am asking Him to help me to not force Him into my box (as if I could). Instead, I want to live in great expectation of what He can do.
